Reeves has been known as the ultimate Hollywood nice guy, and his latest headline is no exception. For the third time (that we know of), the actor crashed a couple's wedding - and left guests speechless in doing so...
We know him, and we love him. Keanu Reeves has been one of Hollywood's top actors since he started in the business in the 80s. And since then, the public has only continued to love him more and more.
It all started with his breakout role in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in 1989 and his later roles as Neo and John Wick. And, of course, there's his 1994 character of Jack Traven in Speed alongside Sandra Bullock. What hasn't the guy done?
But despite being one of the greatest actors in the industry, Reeves' childhood was no walk in the park. When Keanu was just three years old, his dad walked out and was later arrested for possession. He even had trouble at school, being a "little too rambunctious," as he reflected later on.
Unfortunately, the actor suffered a great loss in his late 20s when a dear friend of his, River Phoenix, passed away due to substance abuse. Years later, the actor still carries around his heartbreak, telling Parade magazine that "grief changes shape, but it never ends."
From Nothing to "Nice Guy"
It seems his tough childhood is what morphed him into one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. Besides his impressive acting skills, award-winning roles, good looks, and charming personality, Reeves is known as being the friendliest guy behind the scenes as well.
Over his years in the biz, Reeves has claimed the title of one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. Fans from far and wide unanimously agreed he is one of the friendliest, most generous, and down-to-earth celebs there is - which explains the many unforgettable interactions he's had with fans over the years.
The Internet’s Boyfriend
From his simple acts of kindness, respectful relationship with his fans, generosity, and overall nice-guy reputation, Reeves has even landed the official title of "the internet's boyfriend." However, the Matrix star was totally unaware of his title, making him even more lovable!
When People informed him of the title, he responded by saying he didn't know and "that's wacky," however, "the positivity is great." Obviously, this makes us love him more and more! Reeves earned the prestigious title and became known as Hollywood's ultimate nice guy.
So besides his winning personality, Reeves, deep down, is just an overall outstanding citizen. He even has his own medical foundation. Yup! The actor runs a private foundation aiding children's hospitals and cancer research in honor of his sister Kim, who had been battling cancer for eight years.
However, the actor prefers not to attach his name to the business and instead "just lets the foundation do what it does." So he is humble, too, is what we're saying. He even donated 70% of his original earnings from The Matrix to aid cancer research. No wonder everyone loves him so much!
The Public Opinion
Besides being insanely humble, the actor has created the ultimate fanbase due to his charming, friendly, and approachable demeanor, leading the public to just love him more and more. Some say, he may even be more at ease with the public than he is with fellow celebs!
Hundreds of accounts have reported Reeves as extremely approachable for being one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors. He obviously carried a very down-to-earth and laidback demeanor, making him highly comfortable to talk to, snap a picture with, and get into some good conversation with.
"Keanu Reeves Being Awesome"
A few years ago, someone began a Reddit thread for users around the world to share stories about their positive interactions with the actor. To no one's surprise, hundreds of thousands of people are now involved in the ultimate Keanu Reeves conversation, titled "Keanu Reeves Being Awesome."
The general consensus of the Reddit thread is that Reeves is one of Hollywood's best and is really just great with his fans, no matter what. No wonder he randomly surprised a couple on their wedding day, but the grand gestures don't stop there...
An Insider Tells All
In this Reeves' fan club Reddit thread, a user named u/bo2dd2 shared a story where back in the 90s, he was working as an assistant prop designer on the set of Chain Reaction. And to no one's surprise, the actor was an absolute delight to work with every day.
"Every day for the last few weeks of filming, Keanu treated the stagehands and "grunt workers" (including myself) by taking us out for free breakfasts and lunches. He was genuinely a very nice guy to work with," the Reddit user reported years later.
The Reddit thread instantly exploded with users sharing what he is like to work with on set. One Redditer recalled he "was one of the only people on set who genuinely wanted to know people's names" and "would say hello and mean it" when talking to people. Well, that totally checks out, Mr. Reeves!
Another user added to the thread, "A family friend builds movie sets – doesn't design – is one of the poor dudes that just builds. Anyways, he worked on the set for The Matrix, and Keanu heard about family trouble he was having and gave him a $20,000 Christmas bonus to help him out." Santa, who?
Keanu Saves the Day
Besides all the stories on the Hollywood threads, there were non-movie-related stories as well. "A friend of mine told me that she was once stranded on the side of a highway outside L.A. when her jalopy broke down. She had no cell phone (that was before most people had cell phones) and no way to call for help."
"Then, a nice black Porsche pulls over, and as you can guess, it was Keanu." Not only did he pull over to help her, he offered to jump-start her car, and "when it didn't work, he called AAA." According to the Reddit user, after her car was towed, he drove her "about 50 miles out of his destination to drive her home."
Besides being the Hollywood mensch that he is, his fans also find him to be quite quirky! In 2019, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Reeves' was presenting on a panel for the video game Cyberpunk 2077 when he shared a sweet interaction with one of the audience members that resulted in a meme that took over the web.
When he spoke of the game, Reeves explained, “The feeling of being there – of walking the streets of the future – is going to be breathtaking.” An audience member shouted out to the star, saying, “You’re breathtaking!” And Reeves responded back, “You’re breathtaking! You’re all breathtaking!”
Nowhere To Hide
At that moment, fans fell more and more in love with the actor and his charming ways! As a result of the interaction during the gaming conference, it didn't take long for the word "breathtaking" to become quickly associated with all things Keanu Reeves.
Memes took over the internet moments after the show ended, pointing out how "breathtaking" he is! The bit even went so far to the point that fans were leaving the actor signs reading, "you're breathtaking" on their front lawns, just in case a certain John Wick himself would ever drive by.
Following the breathtaking viral movement, one superfan in Slidell, Louisiana, decided to shoot their shot by leaving a "you're breathtaking" sign on their lawn - knowing Reeves was in town shooting Bill & Ted Face the Music. What were the odds he would have seen the poster that day? Well, the odds were in their favor, as they say…
While the actor was en route to set one day, he spotted the sign sitting on the front lawn and immediately hopped out of the car to give his fan the surprise of their life. The Bill & Ted Face the Music star ran out of the car and autographed the poster, and his scriptwriter Ed Solomon put the whole adventure on Twitter.
Knock, Knock, Who's There?
As it turned out, the message came from 16-year-old Ethan Hunt, who was a major Reeves fan and asked his mom, Stacey, if he could leave the message for the star on their lawn. Following the autograph, the family left a "thank you, Keanu" note on their lawn, when all of a sudden, Keanu himself showed up at their front door!
Not only did he sign the poster, "Stacey, you're breathtaking," but being the true superstar gentleman he is, he asked for permission first! "The fact that he was nice enough to take the time to talk to us and take pictures – everyone says he's a nice guy, and it's true," gushed Stacey Hunt. What a guy!
A Confusing Conclusion
Following the news of the sweet interaction between Reeves and the Hunt family, social media exploded, singing his praises for being the ultimate nice guy. One user wrote, "I have been a huge fan [of Reeves] for 33 years (since I was 8), and seeing things like this just solidifies it."
However, the funny part is Reeves doesn't understand the obsession. "This thing, strangely, has gotten a lot of press. [I'm] not sure why," he wrote a few days after the interaction. "It's a good guy doing a kind thing. But I can't help but think that maybe it shouldn't be so odd." Obviously, he's humble too!
The Hotel Sighting
Regardless if he doesn't understand the viral obsession people have over him, we can definitely understand why the world is totally obsessed with him! And for this lucky couple, the obsession was real, so when the actor happened to be staying at the same hotel as them on their wedding day, they decided to invite the actor on a whim.
According to the groom, James Roadnight spotted Reeves at the bar where the wedding was taking place, the Fawsley Hall Hotel in Northamptonshire, England, and invited him to their reception. According to the bride, she "didn't know if he would or not, but it was cool that my husband had spoken to him!"
A Very Special Guest
Although they were unsure if he would attend the wedding or not, about an hour into the wedding, the newlyweds, Nikki and James, got the surprise of a lifetime. During the reception, a hotel staffer told Nikki a "very special guest" wanted to speak to her. Who could it possibly be?
That's right, folks. It was Keanu Reeves himself! "It was all very exciting, and I went to say hi and introduce myself, and I offered him a drink, but he declined that and said he'd just had a long flight so wouldn't stay long, but he was so kind and friendly and congratulated us on our wedding," Nikki told Newsweek.
Not only did he stop by the reception to congratulate the happy couple, Nikki told the outlet he was "kind enough to do some pictures" with them and with their guests! According to Nikki, Reeves even mingled with guests between shots, making the day even more special!
The wedding photographer was even able to capture a few shots commemorating the very special guest, but it was Nikki's mom who had the perfect idea to celebrate the dear visitor. When it was picture time, Nikki's mom decided to yell "Speed" in honor of one of the actor's most iconic films.
An Extra Special Day
Not only did James and Nikki Roadnight say their "I do's" and meet Keanu Reeves during their wedding weekend, but they were also able to capture the whole thing on camera! Luckily for them, The Matrix star was all for taking photos with the happy couple and their guests, making it a truly unforgettable weekend.
According to Newsweek, the couple was huge Reeves fans, specifically of the John Wick franchise. So we can only imagine what it must have been like to have John Wick himself show up right in the middle of their special day - once again proving Reeves is the ultimate nice guy.
Not His First Wedding
The funny thing about Reeves crashing the Roadnights' wedding is that this wasn't even the first time he's been labeled a wedding crasher! We know "wedding crasher" usually doesn't have a positive connotation, but when we mix "Keanu Reeves" and "wedding crasher" together, there's nothing bad about it.
The Destination Wedding star apparently is into crashing non-destination weddings as well! Back in 2018, the actor was spotted crashing two wedding's in both California and New York, taking his wedding crashing count to three now. What lucky couples!
More Acts of Kindness
But perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised by his kindness: He does carry the title of the nicest guy! But still, there's something about his recent actions at the wedding in England that took us over the edge. Was it his willingness to take pictures with the guests, his positive demeanor, or his just showing up in the first place?
Whatever it was, it just solidified our love for him even more than before. So what else could top the glorious wedding crashing? Well, just a few weeks before Reeves attended the Roadnights' wedding, he was captured chatting to a young boy at an airport in NYC, and well, the moment went viral.
The heartwarming story went viral after TV producer Andrew Kimmel captured the interaction on camera and uploaded the story to Twitter. According to Kimmel, Keanu was waiting for his bags at baggage claim after a flight from London to NY when a 14-year-old boy asked for an autograph. But the conversation didn't end there.
According to Kimmel, the boy began firing off a list of questions, to which Reeves "happily responded to every single" one. The young boy asked the actor why he was in London, about his time at the Grand Prix, how long he was in NY for, and more when Reeves then started asking him questions back, and "could not have been nicer."
His Own Love Life
With all the love Keanu gives to everyone else, we can't help but wonder about his own love life. The 58-year-old actor is one of the greatest actors and apparently humans in the world, so has there ever been a Mrs. Reeves in the picture? The answer may surprise ya.
Reeves has always been deemed one of the best-looking men in Hollywood, from his role in River's Edge back in 1986 when he was just in his 20s to his most recent role as Ted in Bill & Ted Face the Music. However, The Devil's Advocate star has never been married (technically).
On-Screen, Off-Screen Wife
So why, technically? Well, in the early '90s, Reeves was working on a movie alongside Winona Ryder when the two technically did get married on camera. Yup! The pair were working on Bram Stoker's Dracula, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and instead of hiring an actor to marry the two, he hired a priest to officiate the ceremony.
"We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests," Reeves later recalled in an interview with Esquire. "Winona says we are [married]. Coppola says we are. So I guess we're married… under the eyes of God." Well, congratulations to the happy couple!?
First True Love
Despite technically getting married in his twenties, Reeves met one of the great loves of his life a few years later, in 1999. Reeves and Jennifer Syme began publicly dating in 1999, with the young woman becoming pregnant shortly after. Unfortunately, Ava Archer Syme-Reeves arrived stillborn on Christmas Eve that year.
Terribly enough, the tragedies didn't end there for Reeves. Less than two years after the death of their firstborn child, Syme got into a major car accident in Los Angeles and passed away. The actor was at the peak of his career with The Matrix franchise but needed a break following his losses.
Reeves, understandably, needed "peace and time" before returning to Hollywood, according to guitarist Bret Domrose who played with Reeves in their band, Dogstar. The actor had just experienced two horrible losses and needed time to grieve before he began working again.
Years later, he opened up in an interview with The Guardian while working on the original John Wick. "For the character and in life, it's about the love of the person you're grieving for," he said. "I absolutely relate to that, and I don't think you ever work through it. Grief and loss – those are things that don't ever go away."
Despite all the challenges he faced regarding his traumatic losses over the years, Reeves eventually began dating again. However, the actor appeared to be living a single life for years. But in all actuality, he was simply keeping a low profile.
So, when Reeves arrived at a Los Angeles gala with a mystery woman on his arm, people were intrigued entirely by her presence, wondering if this was the actor's newest flame. As it turned out, the mystery woman was Alexandra Grant, a good friend of the actor. But was there something more?
Addressing the Rumors
The two actually go way back! Reeves and Grant worked together on a picture book in 2011, an Ode to Happiness, and again a few years later on their second book, Shadows. The pair worked well together, and eventually, their professional relationship developed into a romantic one.
After years of knowing each other, the couple finally made their debut on the red carpet at a Museum of Contemporary Art benefit show in LA in 2019. Although a relatively private couple, according to an inside source, Keanu "is extremely happy and grateful to have Alex in his life."
Fans were thrilled to see Keanu in love and happy! One Twitter user wrote, "I don't know him, but am I really happy that Keanu Reeves has found someone to be happy with... Keanu is a blessing to us all and deserves all the happiness." We totally agree! And Alexandra seemed to be the perfect match.
According to a friend of the couple, "Reeves was in such a dark place for so long, but Alexandra's positive outlook and support have played a huge part in helping him turn his life around." An anonymous source told Life & Style Grant was "one of the few people who's managed to get Keanu to open up about his emotions and past."
Maybe it was his difficult upbringing, his tragic losses, or his incredible career as an actor (or wedding crasher) that turned him into the ultimate Hollywood mensch - but whatever it is, he's influenced his fans to be as generous and warm as he is, creating the "Keanu effect."
In addition to plenty of other Internet users who have been touched by him and his actions, Youtuber PewDiePie announced he would donate money to a leukemia charity as a result of the "Keanu effect." Well, folks, it's safe to say there is simply no one like him and his breathtaking ways!
