When Lexy Raye noticed her walls oozing with a mysterious red liquid, she began to panic. With no reasonable explanation for the blood-like substance, she feared the worst. Here's her chilling story...
TikTok Tales
While TikTok may have started out as a video-sharing platform, it has since evolved into so much more. From beauty tips to cleaning hacks, there is a wealth of information available for people to access.
The TikTok community has even been known to solve a crime or two. Working with the evidence they have been given, people from all over the world release their theories on true crimes. When this woman had a problem with her house, she knew the TikTokers were the ones to turn to…
Meet Lexy
Lexy Chidester was a college counselor from California. After living in her family home for twenty years, she was confident there was not one spot of the house she did not know. The professional dancer was an avid social media user, boasting an impressive number of followers who loved her autumn festive Halloween content.
From costumes to decorations, she got everyone excited for the upcoming holidays. But when life began to imitate art and Lexy’s house began to act like a haunted house, her content reached a whole new audience. This was better than anything she could have made up, and everyone wanted in on the creepy mystery.
The Mysterious Liquid
Walking into her bathroom one day, Lexy noticed a red liquid dripping down from her bathroom cabinet onto her walls and into her sink. At first, she wasn’t too concerned. It must have been her brother, she thought. He was always leaving messes around the house.
The next morning, however, when she woke up, she was shocked to see it had expanded. Now, it truly looked like the wall was bleeding, and she began to panic. After considering her options, she made a plan of action to find out the cause. She couldn’t sleep at night not knowing what was causing this mysterious red liquid.
Was It Mold?
Taking matters into her own hands, Lexy went and bought an at-home mold testing kit to investigate the stain. If she had mold growing, she knew she needed to deal with it fast before it spread further around her house and put her and her brother’s health and safety at risk.
Suspecting a leak, she spoke to a plumber who advised her on what to look for and recommended pouring water into the pipes and seeing if it leaked through. Despite all the work she put in to find answers on her own, everything was coming up inconclusive. Now the time had come for her to turn to the internet for answers.
A Closer Look
Taking to Instagram, under her account @lexyraye, the college counselor shared photos of her 'bleeding wall,' pleading for some input from her followers. "Can anyone help explain to me why my walls are bleeding?" she captioned the images. "I've lived in this house for 20 years. And suddenly, last night, my cabinet starts to bleed."
"I open the cabinet. It's not coming from the inside. There's c**p on here, but it's not blood," she explained while showing off the wall in a video. "That's not cabinet blood. So I close the cabinet. Look underneath, and it's just kind of a starting point of blood."
Going Viral
Hoping to increase her odds of finding out the truth, she additionally uploaded video footage of the ‘blood’ to her TikTok profile. “Dude wtf my walls are bleeding,” she captioned the video, which immediately went viral. Over 6.2 million people tuned in to check out this mysterious wall condition.
"I filmed the video to get someone’s opinion on what it was, and what to do because I didn’t understand what it was," she told Need to Know Online. However, with no new ideas coming through, Lexy wondered whether it was a supernatural phenomenon going on her in the bathroom.
"Time To Move"
As the mystery continued to spread around the world, people couldn't help themselves but offer up their humorous opinions. "Time to move," joked one user. "It only happens once a month," teased another. But other followers couldn't help but call out the timing of the creepy event.
As one user put it, Lexy's "bathroom is ready for Halloween." Others attempted to scare the homeowner further, with one viewer commenting, "you need to leave. Satan is coming for you!" Another comment quipped, "I've seen this before - actually, all you have to do is throw away the whole house."
Presenting the Facts
Although there were many ridiculous suggestions, Lexy noticed some potentially credible ideas being put forward. As the people began to provide their own answers, Lexy obediently checked them out, testing their validity and recording the process to keep her followers updated.
When one follower asked her to demonstrate the texture and viscosity of the mysterious liquid, she recorded herself wiping it up with a paper towel. She explained that the liquid was oily and quickly absorbed by the paper, keeping its color while doing so. Would this information be helpful?
Checking The Mirror
One of the first ideas offered up that seemed promising was that given by @laurenmeowington. This person suggested that the liquid was actually rust coming out from the top of the mirror and dripping downwards. Intrigued, Lexy went to check it out.
Taking her camera to the spot in question, she soon showed, however, that the liquid was coming from underneath the cabinet, and the top of the mirror was completely clear - with no rust at all. She also noted that, as far as she knew, rust did not liquefy in this way.
The Smell Test
After being instructed by a follower to "give it a smell test," Lexy went into as much detail as she could for her followers, hoping it would enlighten people and inspire results. Putting it to her nose, she inhaled. "It doesn't smell like anything," she admitted.
"If anything, it smells a little bit like vinegar, but it's very faint. It's pretty much orderless besides for a very faint smell of vinegar," she notified her followers. Nicknaming the mysterious substance "demon juice," she joked with her followers that perhaps she was being "possessed."
Bloody Mary
When one user jokingly suggested, "Bloody Mary tryna get out," Lexy decided to test out this theory for herself. "Bloody Mary," she announced while holding a candle in the dark. "I apologize for whatever I did that angered you so. But I'm gonna have to ask you to leave this house because you are making a mess of my bathroom."
"There has got to be a ten-year-old slumber party happening somewhere that is more pressing. If you do not leave, so help me, god, I will essential oil and sage your a** all the way back to h*ll. Thank you." Anticipating the hate she would likely receive for this sketch, she quickly clarified in the caption that this was "a joke."
Testing Other Theories
Although Lexy's followers understood that she was joking around with the Bloody Mary presentation, many were still left unsettled by the idea that there may actually be some supernatural force behind the mysterious blood. Putting their heads together, they would not stop until a factual, plausible solution had been found.
Within hours, she had been suggested every single option under the sun. Based on various scientific principles, experts from all fields were joining the conversation, pitching what they believed was behind the 'demon juice.' Yes, some of them seemed extreme, but what did she have to lose?
The Beehive Theory
Things took a turn for the promising when a user suggested the presence of a dead bee hive behind the cabinet. According to this line of thought, the hive had leaked, causing this blood to seep through. They suggested Lexy remove the cabinet and investigate the wall behind it.
Desperate at this point, with few other options, Lexy recruited her family to help her extract the cabinet from the wall. Although they were skeptical that this theory would prove correct, they had a feeling they would find some answers behind the cabinet...
Taking It Out
Of course, Lexy made sure to capture this suspenseful moment on video for all her followers to see. "Continuing the sage! We're taking the cabinet out!!" she captioned the monumental and highly demanded video. "The suspense to see what's behind it and find out where the blood is coming from! Follow along the quest."
"You have all waited patiently long enough," she excitedly told her followers. "We have a screwdriver, we have rubber gloves, we have a cleaned-out cupboard, and we're about to find out why my mirror is bleeding, stay tuned!" The tension was palpable while the family began to move apart the pieces - what would they find?
Another Dead End
As hopeful as they all had been, it was soon clear there was nothing of note to be found behind the cabinet. Unfortunately, there was little to be seen on the wall and nothing that could explain the source of the 'demon juice.' In fact, it didn't even seem like the red liquid had come from there.
To make matters more certain, a bee expert caught wind of this phenomenon and called in to confirm that there was no chance a beehive existed there. Despite all these setbacks, Lexy remained hopeful. “The mystery continues…” she reassured her followers.
The Attic Concept
Although they had not seen any evidence of the 'blood,' the cabinet extraction had led to one potential explanation. Lexy's dad had noticed that the bottom board of the cabinet hole was damp, which he suggested might have something to do with the red phenomenon.
Was there something behind that wall? Perhaps it connected to the bathroom, and maybe a leak there was seeping through the boards. There was only one way to confirm or deny this theory - Lexy would have to crawl into the cramped, dark attic to see for herself...
Crawling For Answers
With her torch at the ready, Lexy proceeded to climb into the attic. "Pray for me!" she cried to the camera while on her hands and knees. Soon, however, she had reached a dead end. "Here's where the floor stops, and I can't get back anymore. I imagine my bathroom is much further back," she explained.
From that point, she looked ahead to see if any leaks could be spotted. "I don't think there are pipes or anything that's leaking, it's all just the insulation," she admitted. Unfortunately, she returned empty-handed. "Narnia was a dead end," she joked. "I don't think it's coming from here!" she concluded.
A New Development
A whole week had passed since Lexy first noted the ‘demon juice,’ and no theory had proved fruitful so far. She had confirmed that the liquid was not leaking out from inside the cabinet, nor was it originating from the hole in the wall it was installed into.
Moreover, there had been a surprising revelation in the case. With the cabinet now removed, Lexy noticed that the blood had stopped dripping down. Although there was still some dry blood from the past, there was nothing new. Was this the time to give up and admit defeat?
Process of Elimination
At this point, Lexy uploaded a video spelling out which theories had been dispelled and what her remaining options were. While it was rusty under where the closet was, no liquid was coming from the planks. Moreover, it seemed the 'demon juice' hadn't even accessed the wood under the cabinet.
It weirdly seemed like it came from the middle of the drywall and had been pushed forward down the side of the wall. "It hasn't rained, it's not humid, and no one has smoked in the room," she clarified. "The walls have always been cream, so it is not an underlay of paint."
“I’m Actually Really Freaked Out”
Eight days after the first post, Lexy experienced another spooky incident. "I'm actually really freaked out right now," she opened the video. "Because I said yeah, I believe in ghosts, my friend messaged me and said, 'do you have any mirrors in your house that directly face each other? Because mirrors are a big deal.'"
"These are all mirrors that face these two mirrors!" she said as she showed the audience the evidence while slightly panicking. But there was more abnormal activity to come. "As I was taking a video to show her, this clock flashed bright, the time started to flicker, it flashed on, flashed off, and hasn't turned on since!"
Last Resort
With no answers arising, the audience was getting impatient, begging Lexy to cut into the wall and see what was behind. As tempted as she was to do just that, she had thought it through, understanding that a project like this would be highly time-consuming and expensive to fix back up after.
She would leave that idea as a “last resort,” trying every other option first. “I am not a handy person to know how to fix leaks, cut into walls, and check house wiring,” she jokingly explained to Need to Know Online when they questioned why she had not yet taken this seemingly necessary step.
Condensation
One idea that seemed to be very popular was that perhaps there was a build-up of condensation underneath the closet. It was thought that with the shower in the same room, the steam from the hot water was causing a build-up of moisture on the wall.
The comments section was soon filled with people explaining that this condensation was likely combining with some rust or paint under the cabinet and forming this red liquid. They believed that with nowhere else to leak into, it was then coming out the bottom of the closet.
"Serrate Marcescenes"
An industrial hygienist came forward in relation to this theory, noting in the comments section that it looked like it was caused by Serrate Marcescenes - a bacteria which flourishes in damp places. They are usually found in bathrooms and will usually be colored somewhere between pink and orange.
The texture she described seemed to represent that found by Lexy, and the hygienist confirmed that if it were this, it would be difficult to remove and could cause a major health risk to the family. In extreme situations, it can cause eye infections, pneumonia, and even meningitis.
Running Out of Time
After determining that there was no rust or paint under the cabinet, Lexy was running out of credible solutions. Exhausting every avenue, she was at a loss over what to do next. "Hang in there!" she told her followers, begging them not to give up just yet.
To her surprise and excitement, the intrigued audience continued to stick around, not willing to quit until an answer had been found. One dead end after the next, Lexy promised to keep her followers updated on the mystery in return for their loyalty.
Consulting The Family
As entertaining as people were finding the posts, and despite the increased social media following she had achieved, Lexy had still not been given any solid answer. It seemed she had found an issue that TikTok couldn't solve! When all else failed, she decided to turn to her family for their thoughts.
At first, Dad was not concerned. In fact, he thought the whole thing was hilarious - joking that a seance might be necessary to kick out the mysterious creature causing the wall to bleed. However, after a while of it going unsolved, he decided to brainstorm with the rest of the family.
Getting Warmer
"After talking with my family and ruling out everything it couldn't be using deductive reasoning, the only place really unexplored more closely was the cabinet itself." They had looked at the cabinet previously, but perhaps there was something they had missed.
"There weren't pipes in that wall, the wood wasn't 'bleeding' that same liquid, there was no trace of it in the wood frame, the attic was dry, [so] the cabinet was the only place that made sense." They would soon discover that the answer had been right in front of them the whole time!
Mystery Solved
In a second clip, Lexy excitedly explained how when she and her brother were placing the closet back into the wall, they noticed "sheets of metal on top of each other that had a large amount of coagulated goo in that area." Looking closer, maybe those sheets of metal pulled apart?!
Using pliers to peel back the metal, they could not believe what they saw. There it was - the source of the mystery substance. “On the inside of the metal - all that gooey goodness oozing from in-between the metal!” she explained in the final video. “Mystery solved!” she exclaimed.
Further Explanation
"There was blood on the metal, but I thought that was just where it clumped up the most," Lexy recalled to her followers. "I didn't realize there was a space between the metal. I thought nothing of it, but my brother said we need to investigate that a little bit closer."
"It was explained to me that when condensation mixed with years of rust and no ventilation – my bathroom doesn't have a fan – can cause rust inside cold metal to liquefy; something I did not know before all this!" she explained to Need to Know Online. "The wall has been left with light pink staining but is otherwise fine."
Big News
With the mystery finally solved, Lexy returned to Instagram to thank her followers and fans for their support through the stressful journey. "Thank you to everyone who messaged and commented to help me figure out what it was!" she wrote. "Thank you for being here and being silly and sassy with me!"
The next day, @lexyraye giddily announced the most exciting outcome from the mystery blood adventure - her newfound popularity. Acknowledging and celebrating her 100,00 followers, she attached a photo of herself smiling happily in the mirror, which had 100k written with blood on it.
